Pararekau Island

The owner of this rural island wished to rezone the island for large-lot residential subdivision.  The island is linked to the mainland via a system of one-lane causeways and due to the adverse impacts on the coastal environment widening the causeways was not considered appropriate.

We assisted the design team in investigating potential development scenarios.  We determined a practical limit on the capacity of the causeways which led to the conclusion that medium or high intensity developments would not be viable.

We then prepared an assessment and presented evidence for a plan change hearing and appeal.
